I’ve gone back to training with my personal trainer this week. I’m two days in and already I am so sore. I thought I was working out hard by myself but it turns out I probably wasn’t because going back to training has been such a shock the body.
I AM SORE! You know that kind of sore where you can barely walk down the stairs, going to the toilet requires more effort than the workout itself, you can’t cough for fear of breaking a rib and getting yourself dressed for the day is almost out of the question. That’s where I am at.I have to reach over to the printer a lot in my job and practically have to slide my whole chair over to be able to reach because my arms just aren’t stretching out that far without me wanting to squeal in pain.
Today was leg day and there were about 6 occasions where I thought I was going to spew. I barely walked out of the gym and all I can say is I sure am glad I have an automatic car because how anyone could drive manual after that workout is beyond me!
DRINK WATER – Make sure you keep hydrated to make sure those muscles don’t get dehydrated and cause you even more pain. Just drink drink drink water!
FOAM ROLL & STRETCH – Foam rolling will help massage and tone the muscle. It may be painful but rolling and stretching as well increases blood flow to the muscle allows the nutrients to act faster and help with the pain. You can check out my post about foam rolling here.
MAGNESIUM – Magnesium is so great for reducing muscle tension. I take a big fat tablet everyday and it always helps me get over that exercise pain a little quicker. Magnesium is also great for sleeping and a good amount of rest will help you recover easier too.
A WELL BALANCED MEAL – Protein, protein, protein and good carbs! There is nothing a healthy diet can’t fix. While a healthy meal wont make the pain go away completely it certaintly helps. Protein rich foods provide amino acids which help repair damaged tissue and muscles. Wholegrain carbohydrates are your body’s main source of energy, without these good carbs your body cant produce the protein and amino acids to repair the muscle.
